On 8 November, the 58th presidential election will be held in the United States. The outcome of the election might have an influence on the future trade relations between the USA and the EU.
In 2015 the United States were Germanys most important trading partner. Goods to the total value of 174.0 billion euros were traded between the two countries. France, which had always been Germanys number one trading partner in the past four decades, ranked second (169.6 billion euros).
In 2015, Germany exported goods to the total value of 113.7 billion euros to the United States. Among the most important export goods were motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (34.1 billion euros), machinery (17,6 billion euros) and pharmaceutical products (13.4 billion euros). Imports of American goods amounted to 60.2 billion euros. The main import goods were computers, electronic and optical products (8.0 billion euros).
