Iris Gleicke, Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States and Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, is heading a business delegation to Taiwan from 31 October to 4 November 2016.
Ms Gleickes visit aims to promote the marketing of Saxonys microelectronics cluster Silicon Saxony. Together with representatives of the cluster, individual companies and Saxonys business promotion agency, Ms Gleicke is visiting Hsinchu, where several IT firms have become leading global players.
Iris Gleicke said: "Eastern Germany is an attractive place to invest, and in the last few years Saxony has become Europes largest base for microelectronics companies. But Saxony is not only a promising partner for ICT imports. It has also become an attractive investment and production site for companies from the Far East."
Leading global producers of microelectronics and of information and communication technologies are located in Taiwan. Many IT components that are part of global supply chains are produced there. Like in Germany, manufacturing accounts for a high share of GDP in Taiwan; and Taiwan is also building on industrial digitisation and investment in innovation. Taiwan is making use of new concepts and technologies in the context of smart machinery, thus advancing the implementation of Industrie 4.0.
