Between 31 October and 5 November, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel will be travelling to Beijing, Chengdu and Hong Kong. He will be accompanied on this trip by Members of the Bundestag and 50 high-ranking business representatives.

Federal Minister Gabriel said: "Despite the recent slowdown in growth, China continues to be a very important market for the German business community. However, many German companies doing business in China face a wide range of restrictions there. In order to enhance our bilateral cooperation, we need open markets and fair competition."

In Beijing, Mr Gabriel will hold political talks with high-ranking Chinese government officials. Moving on to Hong Kong, he will join with the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business, Dr Lienhard, to open the 15th Asia-Pacific Conference of German business. Around 1,000 participants from both Germany and the Asia-Pacific region are expected to take part in the conference.

In 2015, German exports to China amounted to a total of 71.2 billion euros while imports from China stood at 91.5 billion euros. This means that China is Germanys most important trading partner in Asia. Around 5,200 German companies are currently engaged in operations in China, while 900 Chinese companies are doing business in Germany.
