Uwe Beckmeyer, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, is meeting today with Abeer Odeh, Minister of National Economy, and Dr Omar Kittaneh, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (Palestinian territories), for economic policy talks in Berlin.
State Secretary Beckmeyer said: "We want to build up our economic cooperation with the Palestinian territories. We shall therefore discuss the current state of our bilateral economic relations and joint projects. I am particularly interested in the National Authoritys plans to expand electricity generation. This is an area in which Germany, as a pioneer of the energy transition, can offer important support on renewable energy."
The ministers have come to Germany for the fourth session of the German-Palestinian Steering Committee, which is meeting in the Federal Foreign Office and is co-chaired by Minister Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the Palestinian Prime Minister Prof. Dr Rami Hamdallah. The sessions of the Steering Committee take place every two years. Their focus is particularly on the economic development of the Palestinian territories.
