According to the Federal Statistical Office , output in the goods-producing sector fell by 1.5% in price-, calendar- and seasonally adjusted terms in July as compared to the previous month. This was due to a 2.3% decline in industrial output, whilst construction output rose by 1.8%.
In the two-month comparison , which is less susceptible to fluctuation, output in the goods-producing industries dropped marginally (-0.1%) and industrial production was down slightly more (-0.4%). Over the same period, construction output rose by 1.1%.
The good situation in the construction sector is now likely to become more obvious again following the smaller pick-up in activity in the spring due to the mild winter. In contrast, the industrial companies are continuing to hold back in view of the sluggish development on the global sales markets.
