According to the Federal Statistical Office, output in the goods-producing sector fell slightly by 1.3% in price-, calendar- and seasonally adjusted terms in March as compared to the previous month. Production decreased somewhat compared with the preceding month both in industry (-1.2%) and in the construction sector (-3.2%).
In the first quarter as a whole, output in the goods-producing sector grew considerably by 1.8% against the preceding quarter. Industrial output increased by 1.9% and construction output by 3.4%. In the industrial sector, more intermediate goods ( 1.4%), more capital goods ( 2.6%) and more consumer goods ( 1.6%) were produced in the first quarter.
The goods-producing sector has overcome its period of slight weakness of the second half of 2015, which was due to external economic factors. The development of new orders and of the business climate has again been more positive in the last few months. The trend in the goods-producing sector is again pointing upwards.
