2016-04-14 13:16:26

The German-Serbian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which is co-funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, was opened today in Belgrade in the presence of Serbias Prime Minister Aleksandar Vu?i?. The upgrading of the Delegates Office of German Industry and Commerce for Serbia to a bilateral chamber of commerce will improve networking in the country and in the whole region. It aims to support German companies activities to develop and secure foreign markets.

Serbia has been engaged in accession negotiations with the EU since 2013 and is thus on the path to become a member of the European community of values. As an increasingly strong economic player, Serbia is sparking the interest of foreign firms interested in trade and investment. Serbia is part of the purchasing initiative for the Western Balkans, which was launched in the context of the "Berlin process". This initiative aims to enhance growth and employment in the region, reduce current account deficits by increasing exports and improve the competitiveness of the countries in the Western Balkans. In 2015, bilateral trade between Gemany and Serbia totalled almost €3.4 billion; it is developing dynamically.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy aims to further strengthen the network of bilateral chambers of industry and commerce. For this purpose, it is currently preparing measures including an increase in staffing for the Representative of German Industry and Commerce in Macedonia.
